Film Review: Dark Knight Rises

I was always looking forward to the finale of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy, despite being annoyed at Batman's morals. Even if the lore wasn't entirely true to the comics, the dark themes that came through were definitely tributes to the Batman universe. At the same time, I did feel some apprehension at what to expect. Some of you, like me, will be hoping that it isn't all explosions, action, fighting with little or meaningless story (Transformers 2 anyone?). And with my limited knowledge of Batman, I was also concerned that Bane wouldn't be given enough justice to, after seeing the trailers.

But it was amazing. Deep themes and an excellent story in addition to the tons of action and explosions present. And Bane was not lame. In fact he was my favourite character in the movie and he totally kicked Batman's arse. Anne Hathaway was also a brilliant Catwoman. Slinky, good martial artist, self-serving but with selflessness buried deep beneath that. All the characters were well portrayed. I also liked the theme at the beginning about the destructiveness of allowing yourself to wallow in depression and self-pity.

Dark Knight Rises is an excellent story with deep themes, characters and lots of action to boot. If I was to pick a favourite between The Dark Knight and Dark Knight Rises, it would be a tough choice. People may disagree with this but I'm giving the film a 10/10. Can I go see it again please?
