Lady Gaga

Hot over-night sensation or Pop princess wannabe?  The 23 year old American singer/song writer Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta aka Lady Gaga is taking the pop world by storm with her debut album The Fame.  Her world tour is extending to New Zealand supporting the Pussycat Dolls at Vector Arena, Auckland on Saturday, 16th May 2009.

So who is Lady Gaga? What is she all about?  Following the familiar, pop stardom, public eye standard of those before her like Madonna, Britney Spears, Gwen Stefani and Christina Aguilera etc...  It is easy to point fingers and say that she has reaped the rewards of others success. You have to earn respect of the music world with a fresh sound. Lady Gaga brings undeniable talent to the forefront. She is going to be a big star too.
Being a songwriter for the likes of New Kids on the Block & Fergie. Lady Gaga has a natural ability to write a good hook and melody. Well known for her own fashion division Haus of GaGa who are a team of people who create her stage wardrobe, fashion and style. She is also a great fan of music listing a wide range of styles. Incidentally her stage name is indeed named after Queen’s Radio Gaga & is a big eighties music fan as well as other notable artists. (David Bowie, Michael Jackson, Talking Heads, The Cure, Depeche Mode etc...)

There are two hit singles off The Fame, Just Dance (Featuring Colby Odonis) & Poker Face. Both were No.1 singles in multiple countries worldwide.  The big question is now that you have got there can you still put out good albums and singles to follow-up this amazing beginning? Mixing strong electronic samples with a glam pop style is the strength of her sound. Influenced strongly by Queen & David Bowie’s artful avant-garde music. She is also an accomplished stage performer/song writer and DJ. Making up a host of talents to go onward from her debut.

Lady Gaga brings a number of qualities into the mix in terms of presentation, style and a catchy lasting sound. At first glance, you may think that she has copied or borrowed from other artists. I believe she is original, not copying anyone instead employing an image of her own. She is trying very hard to show her authenticity. I recommend taking a look at her website. It is updated daily with content like Gaga Vision, Haus of GaGa & Ringtones. (Link Below)

There have been many fly by night pop artists every year. I am interested to see the progression of this artist. She has the goods to make a strong & lasting career. Earning the respect of musicians in the industry is one thing winning over people’s stimulation and imagination is another.

Well, Lady Gaga comes to town next month, if you like the Pussycat Dolls she will definitely be worth checking out.
