Harbour City Electric Plays TheNewDowse, Thursday 1st April

"Good friends, good vibes, good music," the brass-laden, heavy break-beat soul sounds of Harbour City Electric will be at TheNewDowse from 7pm on Thursday 1st April - it's no April Fools. The Wellington band is a Jazz-School-trained seven-piece that has incorporated an array of influences, from Motown era funk through to contemporary soul and jazz. The evening warms up with exhibition tours at 5:30pm and 6:30pm, with all galleries, caf, cash bar and Shopette open until 9pm. Entry is by koha.

Starting out as a rotating line-up of top Wellington Jazz School trained musicians, based at Sandwiches bar throughout 2007/08 (Winner: Best Music Offering, 2007 NZ Bar Awards), Harbour City Electric shared the stage weekly with some heavy weight Wellington musicians; members of The Black Seeds, Recloose Live Band, Solaa, Olmecha Supreme and Rhombus all made appearances. In April, 2009, the band released its debut EP, featuring guest singer extraordinaire Lisa Tomlins and five crafted tracks. Since its release to radio, "Red Pepper" - the group's debut single- has received extensive airplay nationwide and enjoyed eight consecutive weeks on RadioScopes Alt Top 40 as well as several weeks at Kiwi FM's number 1 spot. The EP continues to top sales charts at Real Groovy, as well as seeing successful sales nationwide.

The current line-up is: Simon Koziarski (guitar), Paddy Bleakly (bass), Ned Worboys (lead vocals), Ed Zuccollo (keys), Richard Shirley (trombone), Shaun Elley (drums), Lex French (trumpet) and Lisa Tomlins (backing vocals.)

Notable sets include headline slots at The Parihaka International Peace Festival, The Cuba St

Carnival and Wellington Orientation, as well as hundreds of nationwide performances. Recently a nationwide tour including a sell-out EP release show at Wellington's Hope Bros. More information on: www.harbourcityelectric.com www.myspace.com/harbourcityelectric
