Harley Davidson Owners' 20th Anniversary Rally This Saturday

On Saturday 20 February, Christchurch will play host to the 20th National HOG (Harley Owners Group) Rally. Close to 1200 HOG riders (approximately 700 motorcycles) are registered to take part in what will be a fantastic spectacle, which is attracting national and international riders.

The event is expected to contribute close to $1 million to the local economy.

Riders will follow a route that starts and finishes at Riccarton Racecourse, travelling south to Lyttelton via the Southern Motorway and the Lyttelton Tunnel, before returning to the city via Dyers Pass Road, Colombo Street, Manchester Street, Bealey Avenue, Harper Avenue, Fendalton Road, Memorial Avenue and Russley Road.

Part and parcel of any event of this size and nature are traffic delays to motorists and other road users; delays of up to 10-15 minutes are expected at varying times between 9:30am and 12:00pm on Saturday 20 February. The Lyttelton Tunnel will close for up to 20 minutes between 10 and 10.20am. Signage will be in place to alert road users.

The Christchurch City Council has worked closely alongside rally organisers and Police to prepare a traffic management plan that will provide for the safety of all riders, other road users and rally spectators. Please be patient and enjoy the sight of so many fantastic motorcycles.

We appreciate the cooperation of all road users this coming Saturday 20 February.
