Jackie Clarke to MC ukulele festival

New Zealand entertainer, singer and comedian Jackie Clarke has been announced as the MC for the 2012 New Zealand Ukulele Festival on Saturday, December 1. The New Zealand Ukulele Trust is thrilled to announce Jackie Clarke’s involvement in the festival.

The New Zealand Ukulele Trust annually stages the unique free community event: The New Zealand Ukulele Festival. The festival attracts a crowd of over 10,000 including young people, families, professional and amateur performers from Auckland and beyond.

Clarke, well known for her judging role on New Zealand Idol said "I just love how inclusive this event is. It's a great opportunity for kids of all ages to rock out with their trusty ukuleles on a big stage in front of an audience of whanau and friends. It's magic. "

The New Zealand Ukulele Trust Chairperson Mary Cornish comments "We are delighted Jackie has agreed to play such a big part in this year’s festival. She has promised to bring her uke to sing a song or two and to lead our giant uke jam the "Great- Kiwi - Uke- Along". Jackie is such an iconic NZ entertainer - it’s wonderful to have her get behind what we are trying to achieve and we know the crowd will love her."

Clarke’s array of experience includes judging NEW ZEALAND IDOL and SHOWCASE, co-hosting SATURDAY LIVE. Music highlights include THE LADY KILLERS, THE DARLINGS, JUBILATION GOSPEL CHOIR, WHEN THE CAT’S BEEN SPAYED and guest performance with the NZSO, APO, CSO, ACO, Dunedin Sinfonia, DAVE DOBBYN, ANNIE CRUMMER, MIKA, WAYNE MASON, JONATHAN BESSER and BRAVURA and beyond. Jackie’s also a core artist of the iconic CHRISTMAS IN THE PARK events.

The NZ Ukulele Festival will be hosted at The Trusts Arena, Waitakere, Auckland on Saturday, December 1, 2012. The free community event features nonstop music on two stages, a parade, continuous free workshops, competitions including an Island Ukulele Strum Off, entertainment for pre-schoolers, giveaways, stalls, food, and prizes. The rain date is Sunday December 2nd.
