Merry Christmas Everybody! I was very fortunate to see three brilliant bands at Save on Foods Memorial Centre Victoria, Vancouver BC. Here is my review of the gig.

The ferry trip over to Vancouver Island was a pleasant experience, watching seagulls fly overhead racing the boat. Also to find that on arrival you can travel anywhere on the Island for $2.25 is such a good deal. My experience on traveling around to the venue and around town was a real pleasure as it was so easy.

I got to sof Memorial Centre early as I didn't want to miss a thing. The Centre is home of the Salmon Kings ECHL hockey team. It is a new building with good facilities so it is great to watch music as you can see from anywhere in the arena. I was in the general admission section as I am a huge Tegan & Sara fan and I wanted to be as close as possible.

The gig started with a local band called Jets Overhead. They played a small set of songs that blended and flowed well. The reaction from the crowd was very positive. They acknowledged how special it was to play with T&S and AFI. They are a 5 piece band with a lot of promise. Dual vocals with a male and female balance. I enjoyed hearing new music before finally getting to see my favourite band for the first time.

Tegan & Sara are absolute darlings. They played songs from most of their albums. I was particularly surprised to hear the brilliant track "Where does the good go" & opening up with "the Con" was really awesome. As always with a Tegan & Sara concert there was plenty of friendly banter. Sara was very cute and humble. Tegan was chatting to the audience about her experiences and was right on in inviting Hunter from AFI to play on the single "Hell" from Sainthood. The song selection is always something that amazes me as T&S always seem to know how to put it all together. Like the flow of the new Sainthood album. The song selection on the night was fab. The crowd chanted for the song "Proud" to be played but I was thinking that the set list they went through including "Living Room" & "Walking with a Ghost" was super. I look forward to both the shows at the Orpheum Theatre on Granville early next year. Thank you Tegan & Sara.

AFI came out and conquered. They gave everything they had as it was the last show of a long tour for them. I was not too sure what to expect as they are a lot different for both Jets Overhead and T&S. They were very professional and highly entertaining with the stage presence. They played a lot of songs from the great new album Crash Love including the new single "Medicate" the highlight song was "Miss Murder" the crowd was going crazy! "Love like winter" was exceptional too. What makes these guys so special is the effort and energy they put into the show. There was a lot of running around and spinning. You could tell that they were having a lot of fun. They have been a mainstay alternative band for over 18 years and you cannot coach what these guys are doing, it just comes. I was very impressed and would easily go and see them play based on that performance when they come to town next.

As you can tell, I had a whale of a time. I look forward to other concerts coming up in BC as there is a lot of local talent to compliment the big touring bands so all is well. Thank you & Merry Christmas and have a safe one!
