Make A Difference In Samoa And Support I Love The Islands Tsunami Relief Concert On Monday

This Labour Weekend, Wellingtonians have the chance to make a difference in the lives of Samoan tsunami victims by supporting the final, "I Love the Islands" Tsunami Relief Concert at the Michael Fowler Centre.

"It's not often that a night out watching some of the country's top musicians can also make a difference in the lives of people who have lost so much," says organising committee member, Nari Auelua.

"Since the Tsunami hit, our people have been amazed by the surge of alofa (love) and support from Kiwis from all walks of life, from all cultures and backgrounds. As we faced an unimaginable nightmare: the rest of New Zealand was there for us, we remain incredibly humbled and grateful."

Local musicians such as Ben Makisi, the Laughing Samoans and Aaradnah will join forces with Oscar Kightley, Scribe, Savage, The Yandall Sisters and many others to raise more money for those hit hardest by the September 30th tsunami tragedy. The concert is the last in a series of "I Love the Islands" Tsunami Relief concerts organised throughout the country that have raised more than $250,000.

The response from Wellington City Council and Capital businesses has been overwhelming, the Duxton Hotel and Hotel Grand Chancellor James Cook will accommodate the artists for free, Air New Zealand is flying the performers to Wellington free of charge, and the City Council will supply the venue, security and staff for the event, also for free. Ticketek has also agreed not to take commission from the sale of the concert tickets.
