It was farewell to Dai and Dal in tonight’s semi-final of MKR NZ and straight through to tomorrow’s grand final for Neena and Belinda.

Both teams kicked off their three course menus with seafood entrees. While Dai and Dal stuck to a tried and true flavour combination of scallops, peas and pancetta, Neena and Belinda attempted a modern day surf-and-turf.

When it came to judging, Robert Oliver noted that the Asian dressing really put the x factor into Dai and Dal’s entree, but it was a bit on the small side. Sean Connolly raved about Neena and Belinda’s first course, confessing that while nobody liked to admit they loved surf and turf, he was very excited about eating the dish.

It was another face-off for the mains, with both teams creating sous-vide lamb dishes. Grace Ramirez called Neena and Belinda’s main "New Zealand on a plate" and Sean was equally excited about the dish, claiming that both their entrée and main were really making the judges think about the food and creating conversation.

Not to be outdone, Dai and Dal, who also infused their personal food philosophy into their main, soaked up praise for their street-food-style lamb with Gareth Stewart declaring it packed an incredible flavour punch.

With two successful dishes completed by each team, it all came down to the dessert. Dai and Dal’s chocolate torte masterpiece was tasted first. Grace took one look at the torte and proclaimed that THIS was a semi-final dish. Ben Bayly’s only criticism was that he would have preferred the torte warm to balance the cold sorbet but acknowledged that was being really, really picky.

Neena and Belinda’s raw cheesecake also received rave reviews. Grace thought the dessert looked like a little fairy tower and dubbed the raw confection "Belissmo". Sweet tooths, Ben and Gareth, weren’t 100% convinced on the healthy dessert though, with Ben noting that he liked to finish a meal with "luxurious sweetness".

With two amazing menus served up it was anyone’s game. In the end though, Neena and Belinda managed to edge out their rivals scoring an amazing 56 points to Dai and Dal’s 47.

Ben told Neena and Belinda that he felt nourished when he ate their food - a compliment that completely overwhelmed the ladies who said the "n bomb" was the best word any one could ever use when talking about their food.

Hanging up their aprons, Dai said that she was not sad to be leaving the competition at this stage, and Dal added that she didn’t mind being knocked out by Neena and Belinda because they were "fricking amazing".

Tomorrow night is grand final night on MKR NZ - the Modern Day Hippies versus the Polynesian Cooks. Who will take out the first ever My Kitchen Rules New Zealand title and the $100,000 prize?
