Movie Review – Bel Ami

I’m one of the more balanced film reviewers around, as I tend to see the good in most things, and so it takes a really bad film for me to go-to-town on it in my review. So normally I use my 150 words in a positive way, but for this film, I don’t have any positive words to use.

“A chronicle of a young man's rise to power in Paris via his manipulation of the city's most influential and wealthy women.”

Why was this film ever made? Why was it written? Why did anyone choose to be a part of it? Every single character, and I’m not joking here, is nasty or unlikable. The directing and editing was amateurish and made many a scene feel uncomfortable, and the actors often came across as over the top hacks. Also Robert Pattinson never felt sexy, so his seducing of every woman in the film felt confusing and nonsensical. Worst film I’ve seen this year, and maybe ever!
