‘Buck’ was one of the many great films I missed out on at the New Zealand International Film Festival this year and so was really excited to get my press invite for a media screening for its general cinema release. Normally when I go into these press screenings I know very little about the film, or even sometimes nothing at all as I may have forgotten the name of the film altogether. But for ‘Buck’ I had got some feedback from my brother who had seen it at the festival, and he said it was a documentary about a horse whisperer type guy and that there’s one particular violent horse in the movie that’s pretty scary. So even though that information didn’t give much away, it actually just ended up intriguing me even more. So I got my ice-cream, took my seat with all the other media types, and hoped to see an enjoyable and maybe interesting film.

“An examination of the life of acclaimed 'horse whisperer' Buck Brannaman, who recovered from years of child abuse to become a well-known expert in the interactions between horses and people.”

Well it’s a very cool feeling coming out of a film with a new hero to add to your list of inspirational people! Even though Buck is a cowboy, and technically most people would be hard pressed to think they could learn from someone like himself who deals with horses every day, but his life philosophies to do with these majestic beasts could so easily be turned inwards to people everywhere. This was a seriously cool film and that was mainly down to Buck himself, and so for pet lovers, film lovers, or anyone looking for an inspirational person to motivate them, then this film is for you!

9 out of 10 from me!
