Movie Review – Drive

Like most film lovers and I would like to think other film reviewers as well, I love to watch trailers of upcoming films. In fact, though rather ironically, I avoid reviews like the plague, and all I really want to know of a film before seeing it is what I see in the trailer.  A good one can do wonders for a bad film, and can make me super excited for what seems to be a great film. When I saw the trailer for ‘Drive’, which I knew nothing about beforehand, I very quickly put it at the top of my ‘must see’ list for when it comes out at the cinemas. It made out that it was going to be an expertly crafted film, from its directing, writing and acting, and it seemed like it harkened back to 70’s and 80’s films. So, when it hit cinemas I was there as quick as could be to see if the kickass trailer did actually represent a kickass film!

“A Hollywood stunt performer who moonlights as a wheelman discovers that a contract has been put on him after a heist gone wrong.”

Well, the synopsis makes it sound like a cheesy 80’s action film, which couldn’t be further from the truth. This film was everything I hoped and wanted it to be, and maybe even a little more! I had this tense feeling during most of the film, with maybe only a couple of scenes where it let up, but it was pretty much gripping viewing for the majority of the film. I think it lost its way a bit in a couple of scenes, but only in a minor way. Other than that it was pretty much a perfect film. Awesome acting, directing, writing and general movie making, and easily puts this film into my top 10 for the year.

9.5 out of 10 from me!
