The first ‘Happy Feet’ was one of those movies that looked good, but for some reason or another, I just never got around to seeing. So with me currently on my Christmas and New Years break, I had 4 films that were on my list to see before the year was out with ‘Happy Feet 2’ being one of them. So wouldn’t you know it, the night before I was going to see ‘Happy Feet 2’, the first one played on TV and I was finally able to see it and get an insight into the characters and style of storytelling before seeing the sequel the next day. The original was pretty damn good which meant my anticipation for the next days’ screening was suddenly raised, and with free tickets for a 3D screening in hand, I went along and looked forward to a fun film.

“Mumble the penguin has a problem: his son Erik, who is reluctant to dance, encounters The Mighty Sven, a penguin who can fly! Things get worse for Mumble when the world is shaken by powerful forces, causing him to bring together the penguin nations and their allies to set things right.”

Well I missed the first 5 minutes of the movie, as for some strange reason my 3D glasses didn’t work during one of the previews, which resulted in me having to leave to get another pair. Once I got back I found both pairs were working, which confused me know end! Either way, I accepted I missed the first 5 minutes and went onto love the rest of the film. In fact this film was much better than I had expected and one scene in particular was almost note perfect! When I say better than I expected, it doesn’t mean I thought it was going to be bad, but it was just really damn good, when I thought it would just be good. I would happily rate this as one of the best animated films of the year and I really hope they make another one as it’s a fun world to be a part of for 90 minutes.

9 out of 10 from me.
