I’m a big fan of large scale sci-fi films, but they can be one of the hardest genres to pull off, with only the ‘Star Trek’ reboot doing it near perfectly in recent times. When I saw the trailer for ‘Looper’ I got really excited, as not only did it look unique, but it seemed to pull all the sci-fi stables together into an awesome looking film!
“In 2072, when the mob wants to get rid of someone, the target is sent 30 years into the past, where a hired gun awaits. Someone like Joe, who one day learns the mob wants to 'close the loop' by transporting back Joe's future self.”
'Looper' was pooper! Well...that's actually a lie, but would have been a great play on words if it was true. But it was also far from perfect. It could have been 15-20 minutes shorter, the action could have been cooler, and the ending, I feel, could have been better and more satisfying. But it had a great child performance, a unique concept, and created an interesting world, so it's definitely one of the better original sci-fi films of recent times.
