Movie Review – Midnight In Paris

Now, I’ll be the first to admit that I’m a rather naughty film critic when I’ve only ever seen one Woody Allen film in my life, and even more so when I loved that one film I saw. I mean, he’s directed over 40 feature films and I really have no excuses for not having seen more. So, when I got my press invite for his latest film, ‘Midnight In Paris’, I was excited to try out another of his films and hope this would get me into some sort of roll of seeing other Woody films!

“Gil and Inez travel to Paris as a tag-along vacation on her parents' business trip. Gil is a successful Hollywood writer but is struggling on his first novel. He falls in love with the city and thinks they should move there after they get married, but Inez does not share his romantic notions of the city or the idea that the 1920s was the golden age. When Inez goes off dancing with her friends, Gil takes a walk at midnight and discovers what could be the ultimate source of inspiration for writing. Gil's daily walks at midnight in Paris could take him closer to the heart of the city but further from the woman he's about to marry.”

Well, if I needed a film to help me get into that Woody roll and start watching the other 40 or so of his films I have yet to see, then this was the one. When I came out of this film I had a very strange feeling inside. It was the same feeling I get after I’ve been on an amazing date with a beautiful girl and I’m excited for the next one. Strange, I know. It’s not that I was excited to see another Woody Allen film, but more, somehow, that I fell in love with the film! I won’t even try and start figuring out what the hell that means in a psychology sense, but instead, I’ll enjoy the fact that this film left me feeling really upbeat and happy afterwards and I think others will think the same. I just loved this film, and though not 100% perfect, it still had a deep affect on me.

9.5 out of 10 from me!
