December 22nd 2009 - When a top director hasn’t made a film in 12 years, there will always be a level of hype surrounding their return to the director’s chair. When that director happens to be James Cameron, whose last film 'Titanic' was, and still is, the biggest financial success of any film in history, grossing over US$1.8 billion at the worldwide box office, then that hype will be even greater.
On top of that he also directed other huge groundbreaking films such as 'Terminator 1' and '2', 'Aliens' and 'True Lies' and has an amazing track record as a director. So, when the first pictures started coming out of his new 3D film, 'Avatar', which was being touted as not only groundbreaking, but something that could change the world of film forever, people couldn’t help but stand up and take notice.
“On the distant moon Pandora, a reluctant hero embarks on a journey of redemption, discovery and unexpected love - as he leads a heroic battle to save a civilization.”
This film was visually amazing and lived up to every bit of hype that has been associated with it over the last few years. Having been shot in a new type of 3D filming, it really brought film to a whole new level and pulled the audience into a world that was created by Cameron. It’s simply stunning!
Now, if you’re going to see this film then you MUST see it at the movies, and in digital 3D, as that’s the only way to get the full amazing experience this film delivers. Storywise, it’s a little derivative and there are many elements you have seen before, but as with any Cameron film it’s done with a twist. But that doesn’t change the film from being an absolutely amazing experience that everyone should see.
9 out of 10 from me.

Went to see Avatar
Went to see Avatar yesterday, and in 3D it was quite amazing. As Michael says, 3D pulls the audience into the film in a very real way. I havent seen a 3D film since seeing Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' at Disneyland several years ago, which I loved!! Avatar definitely isn't my favourite film in terms of the storyline and it's length, but the creation of the whole thing was spectacular and Cameron does deserve the accolades he's been getting. For me the film was about half an hour too long as I did start to get a bit bored with some of the repetitiveness and wondered when it would end!! However, it was worth seeing just for the special effects! 7/10 for me!!
