12 SEPTEMBER 2008 - Mum's the word It's not quite time to count down, but we have passed the 'two months out' mark, and tickets sales have taken off. It's a bit early to pick winners, but we are taking our hats off to Terri Vowell, the proud Mum of Nelson College Old Boy and rising star Curtis Vowell, who has gone above and beyond the usual in plugging his show. Buy now and beat Curtis' Mum - our advice if you want to see the contemporary theatre piece Bare, with its inside look at the cultural kaleidoscope of Auckland.

Not the Director's Pick This issue we give Festival Coordinator Sophie Kelly her thirty-something pick of the programme: "It would have to be the Woolshed Sessions - it's a very exciting line up, with Age Pryor and other top Wellington musicians- some of them from the Black Seeds and Fly my Pretties. The female guitarist and vocalist Jess Chambers performed at Womad last year - and was amazing. I like the way they put this music together in a Golden Bay woolshed last summer - it's all new and we are so lucky that they are launching the CD with us here at the arts festival. It will be quite a boutique musical experience."

Go away It's the book you can hand to your visitors and let them go away by themselves, sometimes a good thing when you live in Nelson and gets lots of them. The book is the Nelson Art Guide, about to be republished and launched at the festival opening bash at Founders on October 17. Take the book and hit the road - local artists will have open studios on October 25 and 26 where visitors can see them doing what they do best in their gorgeous studios around our coast and hills. Get yourself an Open Studio Weekend Map and catch up with some of our talented creative people - they'd love to see you!

Raise your glasses! The team at Founders Brewery is getting into the festival spirit, make that the festival ale, with the release of a special brew, with the fab name 'Show Hopper'. It's going to be a 'hoppy lager' that fits with warmer days and the relaxed atmosphere of the Founders Caf. So why not drop down and tear the top off a Show Hopper before you pop off to the big top

That's enough of that - get on line now and make your bookings at or at Everyman 03 548 3083. Plan a Labour Weekend in the sun -make it easy by going to

Early Bird prices end on September 26 - make sure you book now to see more shows for less!
