New season of Te Kauta starting soon on Te Reo Channel

The mischievous chat show TE KAUTA returns with your favourite kaumatua and kuia sharing their naughtiest secrets, on Wednesday May 22 at 8.30pm on the Te Reo channel.

Hosts Kingi Biddle (Te Arawa) and Ngawai Herewini (Ngapuhi, Tainui, Tuhoe) are back with an awesome line-up of guests for series four, including writer and filmmaker Herewini Murupaenga (Selwyn Muru) and Maori Party MP Te Ururoa Flavell.

Gisborne mayor Meng Foon also joins TE KAUTA this season, sharing what it was like being Chinese and learning te reo Maori during his childhood.

Returning to the old-fashioned kitchen set with corrugated iron walls, pots and pans, kaumatua and kuia from all around Aotearoa share their juiciest, naughtiest secrets from their younger days.

Producer and director Mark Robinson says the series promises more laughs, more cheek and more waiata.

"There is a strong musical tone this season which is quite different from previous years - Meng Foon busts out his ukulele and Te Rangihau Gilbert plays the saxophone," he says.

Series four also celebrates TE KAUTA’S 255th episode of cheeky story-telling since its premiere in 2010.

A seasoned orator, Kingi Biddle recently won the 2013 New Zealand Toast Master International Speech Competition, and will be travelling to The United States in August to compete in the Toastmasters World Championship of Public Speaking.

For more Maori humour only seen on TE KAUTA, tune into the Te Reo Channel, from Wednesday May 22 at 8.30pm. New episodes screen every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 8.30pm.
