Kiwi DJ Zane Lowe has been named broadcaster of the year for the 3rd time by the Sony Radio Academy Awards in the UK on Monday.

The expat Lowe, who performed in Auckland earlier this year on the same bill as the Chemical Brothers, is best known in the UK for his high profile Radio 1 show and his talent for spotting new and emerging artists.

It's the second successive year he's won the award and the third time overall.

The big susprise at the London awards ceremongy came when Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood was named personailty of the year for his Absolute Radio show, in which he recounts his adventures in the music business and spins his favourite tunes.

The awards judges described the 63-year-old rocker as: 'An amazing character and a really innovative programme”.

“Ronnie has lived the life of a thousand men and you feel like a child sitting at his feet as he unfolds his rarefied story book and recounts his great adventures.'
