The Otago University Students' Association is uniting with ten city galleries to present a

springtime showcase of Dunedin's visual arts scene, featuring:

OUSA Art Week Student Exhibition and Sale, The Dunedin Public Art Gallery, The Blue

Oyster Art Project Space, Temple Gallery, Quadrant Gallery, A Gallery, Glue Gallery,

Brett McDowell Gallery, Milford Galleries Dunedin, Dowling Street Studio, Allbell

Studios, Rice and Beans and De Novo Gallery will all be open late to welcome the

public!

This idea, replicated in many cities worldwide, lends itself to Dunedin's compact CBD

and its vibrant arts culture. There will plenty for people to see and do:

A Gallery will be hosting an opening style event with a colourful body of work from

Dunedin trained, Melbourne based artist Simon Attwooll in a show called 'NOT

AFRAID'. Around the corner Glue Gallery features an exhibition of work that survived

Christchurch's tragic earthquake in February by Dunedin painter James Robinson

called 'Heaven and earth, golden heart, ritual womb'.

The Dunedin Public Art Gallery will host guided tours of its current shows at 5.30 and

6.30pm as well as showing two 16mm Len Lye films on the half hour - "This is a chance

to see some wonderful cinematic examples from one of our own global arts

pioneers." Says Kitty Brown, OUSA Events Co-ordinator.

New work by Hannah Kidd can be viewed at Milford Galleries Dunedin, while Brett

McDowell Gallery across the road presents the latest by Rohan Wealleans. Also on

Dowling Street, the Dowling Studios will be open late and displaying a group show of

the resident artists including Craig Freeborn, Sam Foley and Desi Liversage.

The Temple Gallery opens its illustrious doors till late, so folk can view Hannah Joynt's

latest offering 'Grieving Over a Dead Fish; Secret Mens Business'. Across the road and

down the alleyway The Blue Oyster Art Project Space offers the chance for the public

to view its ode to the RWC 'Play Off' featuring Edith Amituanai, Scott Eady, and

James Oram.

East of the Octagon, city galleries De Novo and Quadrant will be staying open into

the night with gorgeous offerings from various artists in their respective group shows.

One of Dunedin's newest project spaces, Rice and Beans, also features on the White

Night trail with events and shows currently too secret to disclose! Right next door at

Allbell Studios the resident artists will host open studios so visitors can stop by, peruse

the work, and have a casual chat about studio life.

A Dunedin first, we are very excited about this event and hope you will be too! Please contact Kitty Brown at OUSA Events for any extra information, photographs

and gallery contacts.
