The Edge radio station has found its five couples who are in the running to win The Edge 'Nudie Nuptials.' However, some of the parents of these couples are not so pleased with the thought of watching their pride and joy tie the knot "in the nuddy ."
The couples - Mark and Holly from Kerikeri, Mat and Devon from Wanaka, Keith and Kate from Auckland, Shane and Cherie from Christchurch, and Andrew and Claire from Whangarei - are campaigning right now to win New Zealand's vote.
Claire's parents are fairly relaxed about the whole thing, but Andrew's parents are a different story. JJ, Mike and Dom of The Edge Morning Madhouse asked Andrew yesterday how his Mum and Dad felt about the naked wedding, "Mum is pretty anti," says Andrew.
"She doesn't think that nudity is something that matches with weddings ... she's traditional in all senses." JJ, Mike and Dom tried to speak to Andrew's Mum on air, but after hearing who they were, she put the phone down. Andrew is sure his Mum won't even come to the wedding now that they've rocked the boat.
Devon's parents, who live in LA, are also unhappy about The Edge 'Nudie Nuptials,' saying they didn't even know it was a naked wedding. "I had no idea that it was a wedding like this, Devon just mentioned that it was a competition she had entered," says David, Devon's Dad. "My wife is a Virgo, I can't imagine she will be happy about this!"
The Edge 'Nudie Nuptials' will take place on the brand new multi-million dollar Ipipiri Overnight Cruises ship in the Bay of Islands. Prime Minister John Key launched the vessel on the weekend. When The Edge Morning Madhouse spoke to Key yesterday, he said that he hasn't entered the competition because he's been a bit busy lately, "I am already married but you could renew your vows, but hey, you wouldn't want to do that with no clothes on after 25 years ... you'd do a runner!"
The winning couple of The Edge 'Nudie Nuptials' will be revealed this Friday with The Edge Morning Madhouse.
