Patea Maori Club May Record On The Back Of Poi E Success

Wellington, May 27 NZPA - Poi E's rise back up the chart has caused the Patea Maori Club to consider going back into the recording studio.

The song has climbed to number three on the charts after being featured in the hit film Boy.

Club chairman John Ryman told the Dominion Post that Poi E's new found popularity was a "real buzz" and had inspired the 80 members of the club to look at recording new material.

The club would spend any cash windfall from royalties on helping young people learn kapa haka.

Poi E spent 22 weeks in the charts in 1984, four of them at number one.
