15 AUGUST 2008 - Since opening on 12 July, over 30,000 people have visited Auckland Museum's Secrets Revealed exhibition, a record number for a non-travelling exhibit. This enthusiastic response has been matched by overwhelmingly positive feedback from the public.

The exhibition features a collection of long-buried treasures from Auckland Museum's vault.

Even though Secrets Revealed is free, its visitation numbers are impressive, attracting more than five times the number of people through the door than the first month of recent ticketed exhibitions.

"The response to Secrets Revealed underscores the Museum's deep connection with the people of Auckland," says Museum Director Dr. Vanda Vitali. "By sharing our secrets we're inspiring families to come together to share their own histories. The feedback I've received has been phenomenal."

Because of the overwhelming response, the Museum will soon bring out another collection of objects and stories, which will be available to view exclusively online at the interactive Secrets Revealed website.

The Secrets web portal has, in only a few weeks, become the most visited section ever of Auckland Museum's online site. This is just the beginning of a raft of new media offerings coming from the Museum.

"We're particularly excited by the podcast tour of Secrets Revealed, which will soon be available to download from the website," says Dr Vitali. "This is the first time this technology has been introduced as a free real-time tour through the Auckland Museum."

Secrets Revealed: The Backstage Mysteries of your Museum is open until January 2009.
