They say that the best things in life are free........but THEY obviously haven’t been to London, cause most of the grandeur comes with a mighty fine price tag. However if you've got the time, two legs (or a mighty fine prosthesis) then there are a few things in the capital that are worth exploring AND work out to be reasonably cheap.
A walking tour of Shakespeare’s London is about £7 (www.walks.com) and is full of bishops, brothels, bards and bars. Discover the original site of the Globe theatre and see the new Globe nearby. Hear fascinating facts and stories of London in the sixteen hundreds. For seven quid you cant go wrong!
Or for the young and technically advanced, get a podcast and follow the trails at your own leisure. Podcasts are about £5 and can be downloaded at http://www.city-discovery.com/london_tours/tour.php?id=5842
While your in the area, take the time to catch a show at the Globe. Performances run in the warmer months as the theatre is open air. All seats are covered and performances continue whatever the weather but ticket holders are advised to come prepared for rain, sun and hot or cold temperatures (this is England after all !). The best thing about the Globe is that it is possible to pick up cheap tickets. Check http://www.shakespeares-globe.org to find tickets for around £5.
Based under the Globe, there is an engaging and informative exhibition that explores the life of Shakespeare, the London where he lived, and the theatre for which he wrote. A fascinating guided tour inside the theatre reveals the story of its reconstruction and gives an exciting insight into the working life of the Globe. Tickets include a 30-40 minute guided tour of the theatre, plus an all-day ticket to the Exhibition.

The walk, a visit to the Globe and the exhibition are – as Shakespeare has said - Such stuff as dreams are made on – and will set you back less than £20.00.
