The Show Goes On In Christchurch

Iron Brion is coming to town, and hundreds of Christchurch primary school children will be rocking and rolling to a different beat over the next two weeks.

Iron Brion is a singing, dancing character developed by Beef + Lamb New Zealand, who for the past ten years has taken the healthy eating message out to primary school children in a fun, interactive way. Each year he performs to more than 50,000 children nationwide and at the end of the hour-long show, the students are each given a delicious Heart Tick approved BBQ beef and salad burger.

With more than 20 school visits scheduled months ago for the Christchurch region, the Auckland-based Iron Brion team has been on standby since the quake, unsure of whether the roadshow would go ahead.

However phone calls to school principals this week have confirmed they definitely want Iron Brion to visit, and are hoping the high energy, action-packed show will help take the children's minds off their recent ordeal.

"The Iron Brion BBQ Roadshow is such a high energy, entertaining show that children can't help but get fully involved," says Rod Slater, CEO of Beef + Lamb New Zealand. "He brings an important healthy eating message to the kids, but along the way they have lots of fun with dancing competitions, giveaways, and of course the favourite part of the show, the burger!"

Mr Slater said that if any school shows are cancelled for any reason, the burgers put aside for that show will be donated to Christchurch shelters. The burgers will be delivered frozen, so can be stored for later use.

"The Iron Brion team is very excited about bringing the show to Christchurch, and in particular they want to do their bit to bring a smile to the children's faces," he says.
