The chart-topping Smashproof have launched into Europe, signing a ground breaking licensing deal with Universal Germany! Tyree, Young Sid and Deach, along with their label MTC Records signed on the dotted line on Sunday after five months of negotiations with various parties. The agreement which gives Universal Germany the rights to market and distribute Smashproof's NZ Gold selling album The Weekend in Europe, also covers the trio's forthcoming solo albums, and includes an option to market and distribute the album in the UK and Ireland. The deal is a major breakthrough for New Zealand Hip Hop, and will take the South Aucklander's gritty urban sound to some of the world's biggest music markets. The first single from The Weekend, 'Brother' featuring vocalist Gin Wigmore, this year broke the New Zealand record for consecutive weeks at number one on the charts, going platinum and staying in the top spot for eleven weeks.

The Weekend has generated three Top 20 singles, with the third single 'Ordinary Life' currently sitting at number ten on the singles chart.
