TV One news shows on top for April

TV ONE's daily news shows remained on top for the month of April, with all programmes winning against their respective counterparts.

TV ONE's Breakfast audience was three times the size of TV3's Firstline. Breakfast ended the month with a 36% share of the available audience aged 5+ at that time, ahead of 3 News: Firstline with 12%.

At 6pm, ONE News had double the viewers, with a 44% share of the available 5+ audience at that time, compared to 3 News which had 22%. On average, more than 655,000 New Zealanders in this demographic watched each edition of ONE News in April.

In the 7pm current affairs slot, Close Up was comfortably ahead of Campbell Live. Close Up received a 28% share of the available New Zealanders aged 5+ at this time and over 464,000 viewers on average for each episode, while Campbell Live received 14% and 238,000 viewers.

Tonight also ended the month with encouraging figures, earning a 20% share of the available audience at this time, ahead of Nightline with 17%.

TVNZ's Editor of Daily Programmes John Gillespie is pleased with the results, saying, "These statistics show that New Zealanders continue to see TVNZ's news and current affairs programming as New Zealand's news. They trust that our journalists are the best in their fields, and their best source of reliable and up-to-date information."
