You might recall a competition a few months back requesting weird and wonderful weapon designs for Ratchet and Clank’s arsenal. Whoever could concoct the most appropriately insane armament would have their schematic turned into a model replica by the design wizards at WETA Workshop.
200 entries later and a winner has been selected; The Fluttenator 300 will soon hold prize position on designer Darrin Hurd’s mantle.

The Fluttenator 300 is a pistol capable of rapidly deploying a stream of Explosive Attack Trained Killer Butterflies. It has three basic settings; a rapid firing rate of 60 Butties-per-minute, Tracer Fire igniting a single fluttering round that explodes on impact, and a pod launcher that lobs an explosive husk filled with winged menaces.

The competition was adjudicated by Brian Allgeier, developer of the Ratchet & Clank franchise, who praised the design’s odd concept and for psychically tapping into his fear of butterflies.

“The Fluttenator 300 gives my spine the shivers. I have a particular dislike for butterflies, especially killer butterflies fired from a gun. This weapon is definitely unique and is strategic with a funny twist” the developer remarked.

Also among the top entries were the Thunderforce Electro-shocker, which generates a lightening-filled force field, the nanobot-firing Avalancher, and a snazzy Ion rifle christened The Electrorizer
