Winter Olympics Drives Viewing Figures Sky High

The Vancouver Winter Olympics is driving significant growth in viewership on SKY during a period when free-to-air networks traditionally gain audience share.

With the addition of the four 24/7 SKY Sport Olympic Games channels (SKY Sport 4, 5, 6, and 7), from the Opening Ceremony which screened on 3.00 pm on Saturday 13 February to 2.00 am Sunday 21 February, SKY's viewership increased by 10 % compared to the previous week and is up by more than 20% compared to the same period last year. Viewing on free-to-air channel PRIME increased by more than 200% compared to the previous week with more than 40% of New Zealanders having tuned into the Olympic Games coverage. John Fellet, Chief Executive, SKY Television said "The combination of free-to-air and pay television coverage for a key sports event like the Winter Olympic Games delivers extensive games coverage to all New Zealanders".

"Four 24/7 dedicated Olympic Games Channels plus wall to wall coverage on free-to-air channel PRIME and comprehensive mobile and online coverage has brought New Zealanders more Olympic Games coverage than they have ever seen before". The games coverage continues until the Closing Ceremony on SKY Sport 4 at 2:25pm, on Monday 1 March and the final episode of the Crowd Goes Wild on Ice, Live from Vancouver on PRIME at 9.30pm on the same day.
