Following a particular diet for health or other reasons is nothing new, but the contemporary context has seen many different ‘healthy-eating’ regimes, such as Paleo, sugar-free or raw foods, become popular.

Following a particular diet for health or other reasons is nothing new, but the contemporary context has seen many different ‘healthy-eating’ regimes, such as Paleo, sugar-free or raw foods, become popular.

University of Auckland researchers are seeking people who follow particular ‘healthy eating’ guidelines to participate in a new study.

The research, by Professor Virginia Braun, Dr Madhavi Manchi and Dr Angela Carr from the University’s School of Psychology, seeks to better understand popular contemporary healthy eating trends and diet styles.

"One of the things that is different now to diet advice in the past is social media," says Professor Braun. "Food, what we eat, how we eat it, and why, are much more public than they used to be.

"While there are a lot of public messages out there encouraging people to eat better food, it’s very hard to understand exactly what is going on, what people understand as healthy, and what motivates them to eat in the ways they do."

The research team is seeking to interview people who are 20 years or older and practicing a particular form of ‘healthy eating’ - for whatever reason. People willing to participate are invited for a one-on-one interview lasting 60 to 90 minutes. All private details of participants is kept confidential.
