The Pharmacy Guild of New Zealand (the Guild) congratulates the Auckland University team who won the Pharmacy Guild of Australia’s 2019 National Student Business Plan Competition.

The successful team, consisting of students Hunter Amende, Peggy Lok, Jordan Anderson and Tiffany Cao, took out top place with their hypothetical Know Your Genes Pharmacy, addressing medicines mismanagement and using pharmacogenomics to ensure quality use of medicine.

Know Your Genes Pharmacy was announced as the winner at Sydney’s Pharmacy Connect Conference - the runners-up were Sunscope Pharmacy, also from the University of Auckland, and Health Key Pharmacy from the University of Technology Sydney.

The teams were also up for the EBOS People’s Choice award, which Pharmacy Connect conference delegates vote on. Know Your Genes Pharmacy took out this award too.

Guild Chief Executive Andrew Gaudin said the winning team had put together a great body of work.

"We’re very proud of them. Their win is a reflection of the incredibly hard work they put into the competition.

"We’re thrilled the Auckland University students had the chance to attend Pharmacy Connect - we certainly hope they got a lot out of it."

Open to all pharmacy schools in New Zealand and Australia, the National Student Business Plan Competition aims to foster creative entrepreneurship and innovation among pharmacy students.

Launched in 2006, the competition distributes $15,000 in cash prizes to the finalists and gives all finalists the opportunity to attend Pharmacy Connect.
