The Waikato Health System Plan, Te Korowai Waiora, sets out a 10 year direction to help us improve our health services to better the health and wellbeing of the people of the Waikato.

Between May 2018 and March 2019 Waikato people including iwi, community members, consumers, providers and other stakeholders had their say on how they would like to use or provide future healthcare services in the region. Waikato Health System Plan, Te Korowai Waiora was developed through an extensive engagement process and feedback was provided on the draft document.

Te Korowai Waiora puts people at its heart. It describes a vision where every person and whānau in the Waikato has the opportunity to reach their full health potential. We need to radically improve Māori health and to achieve this we must work in partnership, and work differently.

The Plan was endorsed by Iwi Māori Council on 4 July 2019 and was approved by our Commissioner on 27 August 2019.

Our goals for the next 10 years:

Partner with Māori in the planning and delivery of health services

Empower whānau to achieve wellbeing

Support community aspirations and address the determinants of health

Improve access to services

Enhance the capacity and capability of primary and community health care

Strengthen intermediate care

Enhance the connectedness and sustainability of specialist care

The first phase of the plan is being implemented through our Transformation Programme which will ensure that new initiatives and service improvements are aligned with our strategic priorities.
