Bali Legionnaires Disease Warning

Wellington, Jan 21 NZPA - The Ministry of Health is warning New Zealanders about an outbreak of Legionnaires disease on the Indonesian holiday island of Bali.

The ministry said that there had been a number of cases of Australians returning home from Bali having contracted the disease.

"At this time, we're not aware of any cases in New Zealand related to travel in Bali, but felt it prudent to alert New Zealand travellers to the fact that there has been an outbreak, and to be aware of the symptoms," Deputy Director of Public Health Darren Hunt said.

He said anyone who had recently returned from Bali and experienced flu-like symptoms such as fever and a cough should seek health advice straight away by phoning their GP or Healthline 0800 611 116.
