Children's Commissioner John Angus says the Government's announcement today of an additional $33.2 million for maternity services is excellent news for children and a good investment for New Zealand.

"There's no better time to invest in children than in their first months and years of life. It is particularly important for those children who are vulnerable because of family and social circumstances. "This funding will help ensure that mothers facing challenges will get the extra support they need. Plus it will build on the existing strengths of maternity and WellChild services in this country."
