Hugh Green, New Zealand businessman and philanthropist, today donated $500,000 to Medicine Mondiale, Sir Ray Avery's charity for the development of an affordable high tech, robust, quality neonatal incubator that will make the difference to lives of babies throughout the world and in particular those in developing countries.

"Hugh Green is one of New Zealand's unsung heroes; unassuming and hugely inspirational often sealing multimillion dollar deals with an honest handshake. Hugh is fighting cancer at present but he has set up the Hugh Green Charitable Trust to make sure his philanthropy will continue to make the world a better place," said Sir Ray Avery

"This is a true living legacy and we at Medicine Mondiale want to celebrate his generosity and his great heart and spirit."

Hugh Green came to New Zealand an Irish immigrant and made his fortune through hard work building roads and infrastructure for the country and creating a multi million-dollar business empire - The Hugh Green Group

He is a man of many contradictions.

Famous for being able to do complex calculations in his head and remember the price of every cow he bought and sold for his beloved farming enterprises - he also worked at getting the best business deal at all times. Yet, he was quietly giving away millions of dollars to charities.
