Eight of the largest participants in the synthetic cannabinoid industry met today to discuss how to clean up the synthetic cannabinoid industry. The following industry particpants attended the meeting:

Cosmic (retailers of Juicy Puff);

Enjoi;

Erox;

Herbal Exports;

Lightyears Ahead Limited (manufacturers of Kronic);

London Underground;

Platinum Imports; and

Stargate.

These participants today give the Government and the public the following undertakings:

Chemical testing: All synthetic cannabinoids imported into New Zealand will undergo chemical testing before being made available for sale. This will protect public health and resolve any questions about the source of any contamination;

Advertising: Synthetic cannabinoid advertising will only be visible from the point of sale. There will be no further advertising on any other media. All exterior posters and other advertising will be removed immediately;

Product Restrictions: The requirements imposed on restricted substances under the Misuse of Drugs (Restricted Substances) Regulations 2008 will be complied with in respect of all cannabinoid products, whether or not the compounds they contain are in fact restricted substances;

Product recalls: Any future requests by the Ministry of Health for product recalls will be complied with immediately. The affected participants are currently carrying out their own testing to determine the reason that phenazepam was detected in their products.

These undertakings will take effect as soon as possible. All other retailers, distributors and manufacturers or synthetic cannabinoid products are challenged to meet or exceed these undertakings.
