Keeps on Giving! On Saturday afternoon the 27th annual Hawke's Bay Wine Auction was held at the Napier Conference Centre in Napier. Over 650 wine enthusiasts from across the country, including key wine media from around New Zealand, came together to bid for rare wine lots from many of Hawke's Bay's best wineries.

Event Manager, Elisha Milmine says, "With such an outstanding line up of auction lots which included many exceptional wine’s, experiences, the travel package and sculpture made by David Trubridge we had hoped to achieve another record result for Cranford Hospice. I have been truly overwhelmed by the generosity of the event guests with their bidding, also Hawke’s Bay wineries, local supporters and businesses who all help to make this result possible. Another record has been set with the $265,500 raised, which will go directly to Cranford Hospice and we are delighted with this outcome".

Elisha said this year’s event location at the Napier Conference Centre proved to work very well, the flow between wine-tasting areas and the auction was seamless. The stunning view overlooking the ocean was a lovely backdrop.

The Auction kicked into gear around 3pm after an hour and half of wine tastings at the Napier Conference Centre. The day was off to a good start early with a spontaneous auction of Hawke’s Bay Wine Auction, Principal sponsors, WineWorks - Tim Nowell-Usticke speech which sold for $2000, followed by the very generous contribution from Royston Hospital and Vital Healthcare Property Trust who gifted Cranford Hospice $20,000 from a house sale facilitated by Harcourts Hawke’s Bay.

Applauded as New Zealand’s premium wine auction the Hawke’s Bay Wine Auction, lots continue to impress. Guests from Hawke's Bay and beyond showed their generosity and their taste for good wine by opening their hearts and wallets, spending up large. Throughout the year Event organisers have worked with many of the sponsors to raise other lines of income which could be included in the final figure gifted to Cranford Hospice by the event. Hawke’s Bay Wine Auction continues to be the largest private annual contributor to Cranford Hospice.

The event's auctioneer, Chris Kennedy - CEO Harcourts New Zealand, showed his outstanding ability to rouse the bidders, and make sure every lot went for as much as it deserved. Special mention also goes to local tech company MRD Web, who handled speedy electronic bidder registration and kept a running total of proceeds on the big screen for guests on the software they developed - called the Totalizer. The process was seamless with credit card payments going through HBWA Platinum Sponsor Partner - BNZ’s on the spot payclip transactional banking system.

Hawke’s Bay Wine Auction, Principal Sponsor - WineWorks, Tim Nowell-Usticke says ‘It is wonderful to see the Hawke’s Bay winemaking community continue to come together for such a great cause, with guests from all over New Zealand, including the many businesses who year after year give so generously to the event. Tim says, this event is such a fantastic day out with so many winemakers and personalities together, showcasing these specially crafted wines, it is a unique opportunity to purchase these very special wine blends and experiences while giving to Cranford Hospice - what a winning formula!’ Hawke’s Bay Wine Auction, Chairperson Kate Radburnd said ‘It has been an absolute pleasure to see this wonderful annual event evolve over the years to this iconic auction, a major event in the New Zealand wine scene. By offering the finest, unique wines from Hawke’s Bay to our bidders, this auction has become the largest private contributor to Cranford Hospice, something we are very proud of’.

Chair of Cranford Hospice Foundation, Ray McKimm says, "Once again we were overwhelmed by the generosity of local businesses, Hawke’s Bay wineries, and volunteers that all give to this incredible event - and every person making their bid on the day who helped to raise $265,500. They all make this phenomenal success possible." "On behalf of everyone at Cranford we are so grateful to all involved in the auction for helping fund our services. Thank you all so very much."
