With Oamaru fast becoming the most Polynesian town in New Zealand, with an estimated one in four residents hailing from those happy isles - Polynesian food and dancing a big part of the new vibrancy enjoyed by North Otago’s largest town - it seems only right that Culture Waitaki is coming together to support the play: Still Life with Chickens by award-winning Pasifika playwright D.F Mamea.

The play will be performed at the Oamaru Opera House on 2 and 3 April 2019; with the exhibition: Pasifika Treasures planned in tandem at the Opera House from 2 April - 6 April.

A public meeting will be held at 6.30 pm Thursday 21 February in the Oamaru Library, for people who might be interested in being involved in the exhibition.

Elizabeth King, Education and Engagement Officer at the Gallery and Museum said, "We would love to work with Pasifika people in our community to develop this exhibition as a celebration of identity, diversity and belonging. It will be exciting to see what direction the project takes. We have already had interest from local Pasifika artists who want to exhibit their work."

Elizabeth King, Ingrid Cole and Fanua Pereira-Ueleni from the Forrester Gallery are thrilled to be working together with the community on this project.
