Countdown has today launched its own range of baby food, Smiling Tums, for on-the-go parents with an emphasis on health and affordability.

The range was developed with nutritionists and includes nine selections of fruit and vegetables, meals, custards and snacks.

Added sugar isn’t recommended for babies under 12 months old. The Smiling Tums range, including fruit custard, is sweetened with fruit or vegetables, and there is no added cane sugar or fruit juice concentrate. There are also no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives across the Smiling Tums range.

Countdown’s dietitian, Deb Sue, says every parent or caregiver wants to provide their little ones with healthier food options when they’re out and about, when it can sometimes be hard to find good options for their baby or prepare food you’ve made at home.

"Our team has worked hard with nutritionists to remove added sugar from our full range of baby food without compromising on taste. Smiling Tums is naturally sweetened with fruit or veges, and comes in a range of flavour combinations. From sweet potato, carrot and parsnip puree to apple and strawberry fruit custard, parents can be confident that they are getting a quality product, at a great price.

"My daughter is older now but there were times when she was younger that I got caught out trying to squeeze too much into one day. Having pre-prepared baby food just takes some of that pressure out, but you still want to be sure that it’s made from good ingredients and can be trusted," says Deb Sue.

Smiling Tums is suitable for babies from six months old and retails for $1.75 or 2 for $2.90 per pouch. There are nine flavours in the range.
