Auckland Explodes Into Armageddon

Back for its 15th year and with more eager fans than you can shake a lightsaber at, the Armageddon Expo kicks off tomorrow at the Auckland ASB Showgrounds for a long weekend extravaganza of eye-popping costumes, exciting events and well-known personalities.

From October 23rd to 25th Australia's largest pulp culture event will see over 40,000 film, gaming and anime enthusiasts rush through the doors to meet their idols, take part in competitions, experience the latest in gaming technology and much more.

This year's stars form a spectacular line-up with names like John DiMaggio (Futurama's Bender), Michael Biehn (Terminator, Aliens, Abyss), Michael Shanks (Stargate SG1, Atlantis) David Faustino (Married with Children), Bill Farmer (Goofy, Pluto) and Darick Robertson (Artist - The Boys, Transmetropolitician). These stars and more will be signing autographs and participating in discussion panels.

A major drawcard to the Expo is the ON3 Network bringing the sights and sounds of the World Cyber Games to Armageddon Auckland, where gamers will battle it out across console and PC platforms - live and on stage! Another significant attraction is Star Wars New Zealand's exhibition of life-size statues, costumes and rare collectibles.

While the comics, gaming and movie star panels are happening, there's a host of live entertainment -pillow fights, eating contests, trading card tournaments, and the Cheapskates National Skateboarding Championships. Top that off with movie screenings, a Kamehameha contest, a Cosplay Parade, a 30 metre Paintball arena, amusement park rides and more, the 2010 Expo is seriously bursting at the seams!

Even chocoholics will have their prayers answered with the Cadbury Chocolate Hunt at 11am on Monday 25th, where participants will race around five stations to collect some of the 10kgs of chocolate at each stop.

Some side events for Armageddon include VIP brunches with some of the stars and for the second time, a Fantasy Ball from 7pm to 10.30pm on Sunday 24th October. Attendees must come in either costume or mask with the $5 entry fee going to the Haemophilia Foundation of New Zealand. After the evening's entertainment of bands and performers, the night will culminate in a spectacular pyrotechnic event - the burning of our giant Wicker Man.

Armageddon event organizer Bill Geradts is excited with what's in store for Auckland this Labour Weekend, "The schedule is absolutely packed and we're very happy to be bringing some great names to the 2010 Armageddon Expo. It's going to be three absolutely massive days!"

Event Information: The Armageddon Expo runs from October 23rd - 25th, 2010 at the ASB Showgrounds, Auckland. Opening Hours are 9am - 6pm daily and outer doors will be open at 7am Saturday and 8am Sunday/Monday for early entry to reduce queues.
