It's official, wines from Clearview Estate on the Cape Coast of Hawke's Bay are among the best to sup this summer!
Three of its wines are included in Metro magazine's inaugural '100 Wines for summer' list in the December issue released this week.
Clearview Cape Kidnappers Merlot Malbec 2009, Clearview Enigma 2009, and Clearview Te Awanga Chardonnay 2011 were all judged by the nine-strong judging panel led by Paul Tudor MW as worthy for inclusion in the list of great wines for all sorts of occasions, including barbecues, picnics and daily drinking, and special occasions like long lunches, fancy dinner parties and celebrations.
"To get not one or two but three wines is exciting," says Clearview Estate winemaker Barry Riwai. "We are punching above our weight for the size of our winery so achieving three percent of the total list is a great result. It's a testament to our unique micro-climate on the coast at Te Awanga."
This is the first time in its 30-year history that Metro magazine has presented a wine tasting. The judging panel, with extensive experience in wine tasting, wine competitions and restaurants, spent two days in blind tastings and worked their way through many hundreds of wines to come up with the list.
The list covers all varietals including champagne-style wines.
