Boris Johnson gets traffic congestion

Not in Auckland or Wellington yet but Boris Johnson has pledged that by March 2011, London will have a further 2000 car parks spaces dedicated to car share vehicles as part of his commitment to reduce congestion in London.

With Council elections looming Cityhop wonders how many budding politicians claiming to know how to Auckland a great city have actually done any research on how major cities are battling with congestion. Did they even know that there was a car club in Auckland and Wellington? Have they heard of car share and do they understand it is access to wheels for an hour to discourage individual car ownership?

Cityhop was delighted to read  Boris Johnson, Mayor of London gets car share.

As Super Mayor of London, he is investing over half a million pounds setting up over 4000 car park spaces for car share clubs before March 2011.

He says,"Car clubs cut Londoner's costs, help reduce congestion and ease pressure in parking.

He boasts that London must surely have more users than any other European city and even better he thinks they are a "brilliant" idea.

Cityhop also likes to hear that he is taking the scheme further afield and into outer boroughs to encourage different thinking around cars. Forty per cent of new car club members sell their car once they have joined car share. Ask those who want your vote what ideas have they got to ease congestion. Look at what they drive? How eco-friendly is it?  How committed are they to really making your City a great place to live in?

What would you want changed to transport if you could tell a politician?
