A significant number of those in the 'dating game' are mature - baby boomers and others, but they also have an advantage over some of the younger people in dating.e:

1. You're mature. It is mature dating, after all so why shouldn't you be someone who uses your self assurance and confidence to enjoy the experience? Mature daters know what they are looking for and yet are realistic about who they might date.

2. You can profit from your past mistakes. Know what baggage to check at the door. History has a way of repeating itself unless you mindfully replace your old dependencies and fears with new patterns of behavior.

3. You are self assured. You have a better idea of what you are and what you want, which makes you more self assured, but still confident and realistic in your dating goals.

4. You don't have the 'biological clock' ticking. There isn't the pressure of having children and so you can make a decision based on what you want in a relationship rather than being driven by the need to listen to what your body is telling you.

5. You know who you are and what you want. Past relationships and life experience count for a lot and you will have done a stock take and know exactly what it is you're seeking and why.

6. You're more likely to be proactive in creating opportunities. Whether you are engaging in online dating or joining a group where you will meet people with similar interests, don’t wait for something to happen. Seek out as many opportunities as possible.

7. You're more experienced and worldly. You don't jump to conclusions and you have a wealth of knowledge about life and living. You can use it to properly assess you dating and your dates to achieve greater success.

8. You're more realistic. Let's face it, younger dating prospects are endlessly seeking the impossible - not always, but often. As a mature person you know you have faults and so do others, so make the most of what you've got realistically. Be smart, realistic and successful.

Those of you in your 40s and 50s are in a wonderful period of your lives. You are beyond the confusion of your 20s and 30s and have clarified many of your major life values. Your priorities are in order and you know the benefits of being real. Go for it. You are in the driver’s seat.
