Delays to Interislander sailings

Interislander is advising of delays for some of its customers today as work continues to repair a fault with the internal ramp that allows access between the upper and lower decks on the Kaitaki.

Kaitaki will not be sailing today while engineers and specialist hydraulic contractors work to repair the ship’s tilt-ramp, which although it can be moved, could not be secured in place to enable the ship to go to sea. Fortunately Arahura was available to sail today and is operating the services that Kaitaki was planned to sail.

Passengers and freight were transferred to the ship which sailed from Wellington at 9.10am this morning. However Arahura does not have the capacity of Kaitaki so this will mean delays in particular for around 370 passengers sailing from Picton to Wellington after the holiday weekend.

Passengers will either sail on Arahura for the scheduled return sailing back to Wellington at 1.15pm, or be rebooked onto Aratere, which will sail from Picton at 6.45 pm. Passengers will also be offered refunds if they are unable sail this evening.

Interislander apologises for the delays and is contacting affected customers and advising them of revised sailing times to ensure any delays to travel are minimsed. Text alerts are being sent out and people are advised to text 322, type in ARR (arrival) or DEP (departure) for the latest estimated sailing times.
