First Day Foot Traffic Increase A Positive Indicator For Market

The largest show for home building, renovating and landscaping products in Australasia opened yesterday to the excitement of eager DIYers - the Auckland Home Show 2010 maintains its reputation for being the place to be for anything and everything for home renovation and landscape design.

An increase in foot traffic over last year was an encouraging start for exhibition owners and exhibitors alike. Over 500 exhibitors are showcasing the latest in products and services to an expected 45,000 visitors over the next four days. Occupying the entire ASB Showgrounds site, the Auckland Home Show is a massive exercise - put together by an army of builders, riggers and installers and staffed by more than 7,500 workers. The show is so big that the motorway closure last week was timed for Father's Day rather than interrupt the steady flow of visitors expected for the Home Show.

"The Auckland Home Show has universal appeal," says Jane Ford, CEO of Exhibitions & Events NZ Ltd, the show organiser. "From entire homes, bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms through to a trampoline for the kids, there is something for everyone that comes through the door," she said.

With the rise in New Zealand's Goods & Services Tax (GST) occurring on October 1, visitors to the show this year can expect to make considerable savings on their renovation plans "The rise in GST is relatively small, but across the value of a new home or major renovation, the savings can be tens of thousands of dollars" says owner Jane Ford.

The Auckland Home Show key attractions include the Floradell Street of Houses, an entire street of pre-built fantastically furnished homes and gardens; The Auckland Landscape Supplies Walk of Gardens, an inspiring display of landscape perfection; the Fisher & Paykel World Cooking Theatre, including 35 of New Zealand's top chefs and the Designer Living Pavilion, flaunting a gorgeous array of designer products every home needs.

Those wanting to live a greener, more sustainable lifestyle can listen to the experts at the Green Urban Living Seminars, presented by Austral Bricks. The HeraldHomes Property Know-How Seminars are a must-attend for visitors wanting to uncover the secrets of property investment; the Aquatica Home Design Seminars instruct how colour, lighting and design can maximise the value of your home and the specialists at the Ask the Experts area offer invaluable advice on home renovation.

For the first time at the Auckland Home Show, visitors can enter to win a brand new Versatile and Future-Proof Building Home valued approximately at $200,000. This beautiful home includes brilliant Future-Proof Building features like the latest in eco strand carpet, heat pumps, efficient lighting and insulation. Daily winners will be put into a grand prize draw on Monday the 13th September.
