A Richmond roof top garden, London

Cityhop is always on the look out for interesting people doing eco-friendly things that we can tell more people about. This week, we read about Emily Harris, in the Aucklander.   Emily has given up her legal job (being a Judge's clerk)  to green inner city rooftops. Emily was inspired by looking down on the rooftops of the CBD and decided to create Urban Pantry, a network of communal garden spaces on top of buildings, apartments, commercial and possibly public  and a group of people who garden the buildings!

Having left her legal job, Emily is now researching, networking and keeping contact with 40 people who have said they would like to help her with the garden set-ups.  Emily is looking for people to join her garden the roofs of Auckland City. Emily entered a what would my dream job look like and this was it. Now she is being mentored to turn her dream into a reality.

If you know of someone with a rooftop put them in touch with Emily. They might like to create a beautiful garden. When we looked for images on rooftop gardens we found some park like gardens on roofs in London and New York. What beautiful green spaces for birds, what a wonderful way to compensate for some of the carbon a big city produces. Great idea, cool initiative, greening the top of the City, go Emily.

Cityhop co-founder, Victoria Carter, has offered Emily  seedlings when she needs them. Says Victoria, " I’m always taking cuttings of things, and my vegetable garden seems to be forever sprouting seedlings!"
