Holden launches MY15 Trax with 1.4 turbocharged option

Holden has revealed exciting updates to its popular small SUV, Trax, including the introduction of a high-tech 1.4 litre turbocharged engine on the LTZ model.

The new optional 1.4 litre iTi petrol engine comes standard with a six-speed automatic transmission and delivers 103kW of power and 200Nm of torque. With fuel economy of just 6.9 litres per 100 kilometres-, this new addition is one of the most fuel efficient petrol cars in the New Zealand compact SUV market.

The spirited and fun to drive 1.4 litre iTi Trax LTZ boasts a flat torque curve where peak torque is achieved at a low engine speed of only 1850RPM, allowing drivers to experience a refined and responsive drive in both city and country environments. Torque remains at 200Nm right through the range up to 4900RPM, ensuring optimum performance between traffic lights and on inclines.

The 1.4 litre iTi engine, which can also be found on the sporty Barina RS, has been specifically calibrated by Holden engineers that provides an enhanced suspension tuned for New Zealand roads and tailored precisely to meet the needs of Kiwi drivers.

In addition to the engine introduction, the top of the range LTZ also boasts brand new 18" alloy wheels and rain sensing wipers as standard, ensuring that the Trax remains one of the most technologically advanced vehicles in its class, especially when combined with its award winning, MyLink in-car entertainment system.

Brett Vivian, Holden’s Executive Director of Engineering, said the introduction of the new, sportier engine combined with the suspension tune would be sure to expand the popular vehicle’s appeal even further.

"The 1.4 litre turbocharged engine provides drivers with even greater levels of refinement and performance, which combined with the specially tuned chassis and steering, making for a really fun and enjoyable drive," said Mr Vivian.

"Our talented engineers have done a fantastic job to ensure that the new 1.4 litre Trax has been designed to suit New Zealand driver preferences and New Zealand road conditions.

Their hard work has really paid off."

In addition to the new engine, the top of the range Trax LTZ boasts new 18 inch alloy wheels and rain sensing wipers as standard.

Combining these new features with the car’s award winning MyLink in-car-entertainment system and a raft of advanced chassis systems including Descent Control System, Hill Start Assist and Electronic Stability Control incorporating Anti-lock Braking (ABS), Brake Assist (BA), Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) and Traction Control (TC), Trax remains one of the most technologically advanced vehicles in its class.

The Trax will go on sale in New Zealand this month and will be available in the following options.
