iD Dunedin Captures Couture With Liz Mitchell

Liz Mitchell is set to bring her brand of design excellence to iD Dunedin Fashion Week on the runway of the iD Fashion Shows on Friday 8 April and Saturday 9 April, 2011. Fusing timeless glamour with a strong modern edge, Liz Mitchell is one of New Zealand's leading couture and ready to wear designers. Liz will showcase her Winter 2011 collection, titled "The Scent of Peony" inspired by the glamorous and decadent city of wartime Shanghai in the 1940s. Mitchell also plans to show archive pieces including items from her Nightflowers of the Pacific, 2006 Autumn/Winter collection.

Liz's clothes are chosen and worn for their gorgeous colours, sumptuous fabrics, impeccable tailoring and attention to detail in every aspect of their construction. Her Winter 2011 collection is no exception with images like sultry 'cheung sam' cocktail frocks in metallic laces sharing the runway with sensual evening gowns in luxurious silk velvets and curvaceous Fortuny pleating. Trousers are tailored with a beautiful cut for the New Zealand woman - stylish and flattering while also comfortable for long hours of meetings and travel. For colder zones, the collection offers a versatile four-in-one cocoon coat and chunky cable knitwear.

Established in 1994, Liz Mitchell's label has been popular with Kiwi women for 17 years. Her glamorous evening wear has featured on the international stage by British royalty Zara Phillips, Oscar nominee Keisha Castle-Hughes (Whale Rider), former New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark and actress Lucy Lawless. In addition to her sought after couture and exquisite made-to-measure bridal wear, Liz also produces a ready-to-wear range. 'Mitchell by Liz Mitchell' her diffusion range is sold through Farmers Trading Company stores nationwide.

Liz Mitchell completes the line-up of special guest designers and will show alongside Australia designer Akira Isogawa and Charlotte Smith, curator of the Darnell Collection, as part of iD Dunedin Fashion Week.

Popular media personalities and crowd favourites Carol Hirschfeld and John Campbell will return to host the iD Fashion show on Saturday, 9 April. Carol will also host the iD International Emerging Designer Awards on Thursday 7 April and the iD Dunedin Fashion Show on Friday 8 April.

A number of inspiring public fashion events will take place during iD Dunedin Fashion Week including: Starlight Shopping; public lectures by Akira Isogawa, international fashion designer, and Charlotte Smith, curator of the Darnell Collection; Fashion on the Fringe by the Dfi at Salisbury on Bond; as well as a host of events at the Dunedin Public Library. QUOTES

Liz Mitchell, fashion designer, www.lizmitchell.co.nz

"iD Dunedin Fashion Week is a wonderful opportunity for graduates and designers to present their ranges and showcase their fashion talent. Showing my couture range at iD is one of a series of significant opportunities this year, during a tough economic environment for fashion design. Having watched iD Dunedin Fashion Week from afar all these years, I am thrilled to show my couture collection in the 'railway station' show."

Susie Staley - chair of iD Fashion Committee www.idfashion.co.nz

"Liz Mitchell's presence adds a different dimension to iD Dunedin Fashion Week. This year's show will offer the audience a chance to see for the first time in Dunedin, glamorous pieces from one of New Zealand's leading couture designers. There are still a few tickets left but the buzz created by this latest announcement means people will need to get in quick!"
