Feeling lazy, Auckland? A little bit...idle? Lacking energy, enthusiasm, drive? Do you know someone that needs three and a half cans of Red Bull poured down their throat and a firm kick in the proverbial before they do anything remotely productive?
Are Kiwis generally just too laidback? Does our “Nah, she’ll be right” attitude get us into trouble as a result?
The October LATE at the Auckland Museum will explore “the merits and pain” of being Slothful as part of their 2012 series on The Seven Deadly Sins. The discussion this month will be hosted by comedian Ben Hurley and his colleagues Chris Brain and Irene Pink – these three comedians waxing poetic about Sloth is something you’re not going to want to miss.
If you’ve never been, the LATE events are a great night out in Auckland – there’s wine, culture and atmosphere galore and it’s a good way to catch up with friends once a month or get out of the house with your partner for the evening.
This month the doors will open from 6.30pm and there will be a Shakespeare performance at approximately 7pm (‘Shakespeare’s Henry IV Part 1 as Falstaff tries his very best not to do his duty on the battlefields of Shrewsbury’), and the debate will start at 7.30pm. There will be a performance from Electric Wire Hustle from 9pm. You can also take a guided tour of the more Slothful items in the Museum with collection manager Siren Deluxe – don’t forget if you want to join the tour you need to register for this after the panel discussion.
The LATE series is proving to be very popular with Aucklanders – there has even been talk of theme dressing in PJs and sleeping bags for the Sloth event, which I wholeheartedly endorse but the Museum may not.
The #latesins hashtag on Twitter provides the added benefit of being able to give 140-character opinions on the discussion and connect with others - usually in commiseration when one over-identifies with the sin of the month.
All up, I’m keen to see what the discussion on my second-favourite sin (Gluttony wins) will bring this month.
Hope to see you there – I may or may not be wearing my fluffy pink uggs.
