Liz Mitchell pays homage to magical lushness of NZ

Celebrating New Zealand's rich native forest and bird life, fashion designer Liz Mitchell has created a spirit creature, a guardian of the land - a garment inspired by the flower of the Underworld - 'Pua o te Reinga' the woodrose, a unique endangered indigenous plant.

'Liz Mitchell's 'Pua o te Reinga' will join other creations by prestigious local and international designers and will be showcased on October 18th and 19h (next week) at Style Pasifika, Best of Pasifika 2011 over 2 nights at Auckland 's Vector Arena.

The bodice of the garment is NZ merino wool plaited and entwined with feathers and crystals embracing the organic sense of the bush supplejack creepers.

The textured pleated skirt forms a trunk of strength carrying its canopy of foliage and bird life, with its cape of silk organza, and feather puff balls.

Alicia Courtney's greenstone and feather necklace continues the celebration of nature.

"It is such a pleasure to be able to create a garment to the brief of celebrating our magical environment, " said Liz Mitchell, "and to be part of an event that will introduce to international guests our country's remarkable depth of talent."

Style Pasifika is a highlight event of the Rugby World Cup Final week. It celebrates New Zealand's place in the Pacific and is a vibrant fusion of fashion, culture, music and dance.
