Weather permitting the Pipeline Car Park at Midway Beach will open today.

The car park was closed last Friday after the pressurised sewer main from Gisborne city's wastewater treatment plant to the Midway outfall pipe cracked. This caused leaks and sump holes to appear.

A large hole was dug around the pipe so that repairs could be made early on Saturday morning.

That hole has now been filled with sand and base material is being laid on top when weather allows. Once this is finished the car park can be used by vehicles.

The car park will not be sealed until the surface is quite a bit drier. This won't be until next week at the earliest.

Water from the hole was pumped into a temporary storage pond that was created in the sand dunes. This hole has been disinfected and will be buried. Access to the dune area will also be restored today.
